About Us

At Pacific Resources Psychological Group, we’re dedicated to helping people change their lives and actualize their potential.  That’s our organization’s purpose and it’s the goal of everyone who works here.

As organizations go in our field, we’re reasonably large, with over twenty licensed psychologists and three psychiatrists. We specialize in treating adults, adolescents and children.  We use a holistic approach – we look at the individual as a whole, not just a single symptom.  And we combine therapy with medication management when necessary because research indicates that integrating these two treatment disciplines achieves the longest resolution to a person’s therapeutic issues.

We’re a Values Conscious organization.  Our core values define who we are.  We work hard to live our values and practice what we preach.  We bring our values to the forefront of our day-to-day interactions with all our patients and with each other.

Dr. Ellen Powers founded Pacific Resources in 1992 and currently serves as Clinical Director.  Dan Powers, her husband, joined the practice in 1993 as Executive Director to direct the growth and business management of the organization.

Together, these two dedicated people have built and continue to build a well-respected psychology practice serving the greater Long Beach area.  The practice is vibrant, focused on its goals and unswerving in its commitment to its clients, and their potential for the highest possible quality of life

Ellen Powers, Psy.D.

Pacific Resources Psychological Group was founded in 1992 by its clinical director, Ellen Powers, Psy.D.  Dr. Powers received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Argosy University in Chicago, Illinois.  She has been in the practice of psychology for twenty years.  Dr. Powers began her professional career as an educator.  She has an abiding belief that children need nurturance, training, and emotional support in order to develop into independent adults and achieve their goals.

Dr.  Powers has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing therapeutic programs that will serve to actualize the potential in all of us.  In order to achieve their therapeutic goals, clients at Pacific Resources need to feel comfortable, safe, and understood.  This type of trusting environment makes it much easier for a person to express his or her thoughts and feelings, and to use the therapeutic program in beneficial, life-changing ways.

Daniel J. Powers

In 1993, Mr. Daniel J. Powers joined Pacific Resources to develop the business component of the practice.  Dan graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.  His background includes several entrepreneurial ventures spanning a 25 year career of successful business management.

Dan’s goal from the beginning of his career at Pacific Resources has been to incorporate sound business practices into the clinical environment in a manner that compliments the therapeutic nature of the practice.  He has devoted particular effort to establish a stable and safe physical environment in which our doctors and patients can work comfortably.

In addition to his role as executive director of Pacific Resources, Dan volunteers his time in many community organizations.  He is currently chairman of the board of the Harbor Free Clinic in San Pedro, California.

Our Core Values are the moral and ethical rules by which we live.  They serve to guide our actions, our behavior and the decisions we make in operating every aspect of our organization. They are the standards by which we will be judged and by which we will attain credibility.  No amount of talent or ability should be accepted as a reason not to commit to and live our Core Values.  Here they are:

Respect: Being Responsible and accountable for the quality of our interactions and the quality of our relationships with every person we touch – patients, their families and our colleagues and staff members.

Quality: To us, quality means high quality in every aspect of every service we provide, every interaction we have, every function we perform, and every result we achieve. Quality is a standard of excellence that makes everyone proud to be part of our organization, pleased to be touched by our organization, and enthusiastic about telling others.

Integrity: It means doing what we say we will do.  And it means being willing to make and meet commitments.  It is about accepting responsibility for results.

Interdependence: Being mutually supportive of one another, regardless of anyone’s title, role or job description, while maintaining professional autonomy and independence in delivering treatment to our clients.  We behave toward each other in ways consistent with our belief that all of us are linked and mutually dependent on each other to fully realize success.

Profitability: Earning the optimum amount of profit for the work we do without compromising our standards of quality.   We value profitability in what we bill and collect for our services and in how we support the administrative and management activities that contribute to our profitability.

Having Fun: We bring a lightness of spirit and joy in what we do to our work and to our environment.  We believe that productivity, professionalism and fun go hand-in-hand.
