Autism Programs
Autism is a baffling disorder. Parents are usually the first to notice unusual behaviors in their child as the baby seems “different” from birth, unresponsive to people, or focusing intently on one item for long periods of time. The first signs of Autism can also be seen in children who seem to have been developing normally but then become silent, withdrawn, self-abusive, and unresponsive to social cues.
Autistic patients respond well to highly structured, specialized treatment. Parents or caregivers are expected to be involved and to become active participants in treatment. Our clinicians at Pacific Resources utilize Behavior Modification techniques to reduce inappropriate behavior and increase communication and appropriate social behavior. Our psychiatrists may prescribe medications to treat significant behavioral problems as aggression, self-injurious behavior, and severe tantrums.
Those who participate in treatment can expect a reduction in aggression and other maladaptive behaviors and an increase in compliance, self-control, and effective, everyday life- functioning.
